Take a look at your current Instagram feed and ask yourself these questions:
- What types of Instagram profiles you wish to build?
Personal is commonly used to connect with friends where you can share whatever you like without having the thought to monetize or sell products/services. With this type of account, you can set it to private or public anytime you like.Creator Instagram profiles are good for influencers, public or notable figure, and all type of content creator, This is good if you are looking to grow your account and to work with brands. This type of account only works for public account.
Business account will be the best choice when you have a brand that needs Instagram as one of the strategic tools, it makes your brand looks more professional and trustworthy. You can also run ads which is perfect for growing businesses.
- What type of content do you want to post?
Some account focuses on quotes, fashion, food, selfies, animals, landscapes & scenery, or even all of them but then again it depends on what theme you choose. Usually people post whatever they like but if you want to start a feed then you are required to try a little bit harder than just simply posting; it’s to think carefully about what you post and the flow of your feed. - What theme do you want to choose for your feed?

After asking yourself those questions (and of course, finding the answer to it), here are some tips before you start your Instagram feed journey:
- Always shoot in natural lighting
This is one of the most important thing when starting a feed. You don’t only focus on what you want to post but also the quality of the things that you are going to post. This way you will get a picture that only needs minimum editing. - Plan your posts beforehand
This is way easier than having to post and delete it before anyone can see it. For planning I use the Preview App (other apps: Unum, Planoly, Plann) where you can connect it into your Instagram account (it will show you all your posted pics). In this app, you can add pictures that you would want to post in the future and drag it around so you will know where and when to post it; this enables you to see the bigger picture of your Instagram and help you find what and whatnot suitable for the flow of the feed. - ARCHIVE not delete
It’s one of the thing that I regret the most, before my current feed, I have a beautiful blue-colored theme feed and instead of archiving it, I deleted all of them. If you see that this one post is bothering the flow of your whole feed, archive it. Why? so that later in the future when you ‘accidentally’ archive a picture, you can bring it back without having to post the same thing. - Many content is never enough content
When you are out to take a picture, don’t just go and take one, take a bunch of them! it will help you improve your feed when you have a lot of content and keep your feed going. - Post when your followers are most active during the day
You can see this by switching your account into a business account (don’t worry you can change it back whenever) and check your insight. There it will tell you not only what time your followers are usually active on Instagram but also what day. They will also tell you how many people has visited your account per day. - Post regularly
It doesn’t matter whether you interpret it as posting on a daily basis or weekly basis, you got to keep your feed updated. Why? The more you post the higher the number of traffic (people who come and check your account) will be. - Engage with your followers
Giveaways, polls, questions of that needs to be answered, even simply posting a story to keep your follower updated is better than nothing. - Be consistent
Remember that you are doing this for the long haul. It’s okay if it’s not yet perfect the first time you try it but know that you will get better each day.
With that being said, here are the the final question for you before you start; are you ready to dedicate your life into your Instagram feed?
